CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — UPEI defeated Dalhousie 4-1 on Friday night, with the Panthers scoring all four of their goals in the second period. Dalhousie (4-3-1, 4-3-1) managed a single goal in the third period but was unable to recover from the second-period deficit.
The first period of the game between Dalhousie and the Panthers ended in a scoreless tie. Dalhousie had several opportunities with two power plays, but UPEI's Erin Cabaday stood strong in net, making key saves, including a stop on a shot by Abby Larkin at 7:36. Grace Beer, guarding the net for Dalhousie, was equally effective, turning aside multiple attempts, including back-to-back shots by the Panthers' Kierra St. Peter at 15:17. Both teams showed defensive tenacity, with UPEI winning the majority of faceoffs, yet neither side could capitalize on their chances.
UPEI dominated the second period, scoring four goals to extend their lead over Dalhousie. The scoring began with a power play goal by Renée Chapman at 3:29, assisted by Sadie Brown and Anjali Simms. Despite being short-handed, the Panthers' Hayden Lilly managed to find the back of the net at 7:45, increasing the lead.
