Bio

Three-time AUS men’s volleyball most valuable player, Scott Bagnell had an accomplished five-year career at Dalhousie. The setter not only won awards but graduated with two degrees and played his final year of eligibility while in medical school.

Joining the men’s volleyball team in 1987, Scott became a five-time AUS champion with the Tigers, earned three first team all-star nods, two all-Canadian honours and was named the Climo Award winner in his third year in 1989-90 and fifth year in 1994-95.

Captain of the team, Scott was a three-time Dalhousie men’s volleyball team MVP, and finished off his fifth year as a Howard Mackie Award winner which recognizes the top male and female student-athlete in U SPORTS and a James Bayer Memorial Scholarship award winner which is rewarded to an outstanding student-athlete in AUS for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, sportsmanship and citizenship.

After his successful career at Dalhousie, Scott went on to become a urologist, completing his residency at Dalhousie and Uro-oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto. Now practicing in Saint John, New Brunswick, Scott is still an active coach at the middle school and high school level in the Rothesay community.

"This is easily the greatest individual honour I have received," says Bagnell. "My fondest memories of Dal involve varsity athletics. My teammates were truly not just my social group during my university days, but essentially family. My coaches (Al Scott and Dan Ota) have continued to stay in contact and provided me with endless expertise in coaching and player development. All a testament to the bonds formed over those five wonderful years. In short, the thought that Dal wants to keep a little part of me, after all the great memories it has left me with is probably the greatest feeling of all. It is such a privilege to be included with all the prior inductees."
