WOLFVILLE, N.S. — The AUS Cross Country Championships took place Saturday at Hennigar's Farm with STFX winning the women's banner and UNB claiming the men's title. Dalhousie earned bronze in both races as teams battled cool fall conditions on a rolling course.
STFX secured the women's crown with 27 points, placing all five scorers inside the top 11 to control the race from the midway mark. UNB finished second with 62 points, holding off Dalhousie, who took third with 67. Memorial, UPEI, Acadia, Saint Mary's and Moncton rounded out the field.
The women's individual race came down to seconds. Saint Mary's rookie Frances MacLeod broke the tape in 28:44, edging STFX's Caroline Ash, who finished in 28:46. MacLeod's finish earned her first-team all-star honours, all-rookie team and athlete of the year honours.
UNB took the men's championship with 30 points after placing five in the top 14 and all seven runners inside the top 20. STFX pressed throughout and settled for second with 36. Dalhousie completed the podium with 72. UPEI, Saint Mary's, Memorial and Moncton filled out the standings.
The men's individual title stayed in UNB colours. Jared Howse won in 24:50, pulling away in the final kilometre, earning him male athlete of the year and first team all-star honours.
Dalhousie's Molly Pert has been named the AUS Student-Athlete Community Service Award recipient for 2025.
A fourth-year environmental studies student from Ottawa, Ont., Pert balances her commitment to academics and athletics with an extensive record of volunteerism and leadership in the Halifax community.
She serves as events coordinator and community outreach lead for Dalhousie's Environmental Science programs, organizing shoreline cleanups and donation drives for Hope for Wildlife, a local rehabilitation and education centre. A trip leader with the Dalhousie Outdoors Society, she helps make outdoor recreation accessible to all students, and she coordinates volunteer opportunities for fellow student-athletes through the varsity council.
Pert also gives her time to several community programs, including the Ronald McDonald House "Home for Dinner" initiative, a reading buddy program at a local elementary school, and childminding at the YMCA. This fall, she helped organize a shoe and athletic apparel drive for the Halifax Community YMCA and led her team's participation in the Terry Fox Run to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
