Capers top Tigers 4-0

The Cape Breton Capers women's soccer team beat the Dalhousie Tigers 4-0 on September 15 at Dalhousie's Wickwire Field.  

Both teams struggled to generate scoring chances to start the game. The two sides were playing strong defensively and snuffed out any chances before they were able to develop. That was the story until midway through the first half when Cape Breton's Leah Disipio (Ottawa, ON) put together two goals in rapid succession.  

Her first goal came off an uncontested that bounced off the crossbar before it tucked itself behind the goal line. The second came just two minutes later. Rebecca Lambke (Antigonish, NS) and Makenna Bowser (Bible Hill, NS) picked up assists on the goals.  

From that point on Cape Breton controlled play in the first half. Dalhousie goalkeeper Emily Toth seemed to have been woken up by the two goals, and she recorded three impressive saves to keep the score at 2-0 Capers at the half.  

CBU added two more goals in the second half and really started to pull away. Disipio added a third goal to complete the hat-trick. Fourth-year striker Alliyah Rowe (Kitchener, ON) provided the fourth goal.  

Jordan Mansfield (Vancouver, BC) and Taylor Heard ( Ottawa, ON) were responsible for the only shots on goal for the Tigers.  

The fans toughed out the rain on a wet night at Wickwire. The Capers move to 3-1 on the season with the win and bounce back from their loss last weekend to StFX. Meanwhile, Dalhousie falls to 2-2 with the loss.  

The Tigers will be back in action this Thursday, September 21, when they host their cross town rival Saint Mary's University at 5:00 p.m.  

Cape Breton's next game won't be until next Saturday, September 23, when they head to Wolfville to take on Acadia. They were scheduled to continue their road trip this weekend and head to Sackville to play Mount Allison on Sunday, but that game has been postponed due to impending weather.
