MacSween leads Tigers to win over Mounties
The Tigers beat the Mounties 3-1 on Saturday.
SACKVILLE, N.B. — Dalhousie defeated Mount Allison, 3-1, at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre. Dalhousie secured the victory with a three-goal surge in the third period, including a power-play goal.
The first period between Dalhousie and the Mounties began with the Mounties winning the opening faceoff. Both teams exchanged shots early, with Dalhousie's Grace Beer making several key saves, particularly against Noa Marincola and Dallis Mackenzie. Dalhousie responded with offensive pressure, as Skye McDonald turned aside multiple attempts, including those by Elaina Pilkington and Madison Wardle. Despite numerous opportunities for both sides, the period concluded scoreless with strong goaltending performances on each end.
Dalhousie and the Mounties remained scoreless throughout the second period despite a flurry of activity. Dalhousie generated multiple chances, including a key power play opportunity after penalties to the Mounties' Noa Marincola and Taylor Hunter, but Skye McDonald thwarted each shot, including an attempt by Abby Larkin at 7:54. The Mounties had several power play chances as well but could not convert, with Grace Beer making crucial saves, including a stop on Taylor Hunter at 17:53. Defensive efforts were highlighted by Jill Imeson and Leah MacSween, who both blocked significant attempts from the opposition. The period concluded with no goals, keeping the game tightly contested.
Dalhousie extended their lead early in the third period with a goal by Casey Beisel at 2:25, assisted by Ava Boyle. Just a few minutes later, Avery Holmes made it 2–0 with help from Jill Imeson and Leah MacSween at 5:06. The Mounties responded on a power play with a goal by Dallis Mackenzie at 10:13, reducing the deficit to one. Dalhousie sealed their victory when Leah MacSween scored on a power play at 17:48, assisted by Holmes and Imeson, securing a 3–1 final score.
Leah MacSween scored one goal and added an assist, while converting on a power play opportunity. Avery Holmes netted the game-winning goal and contributed an assist. Casey Beisel found the back of the net with one goal. In goal, Grace Beer recorded 26 saves, allowing only one goal.
The Tigers return to home ice on Friday when they host the UPEI Panthers at 7pm.
