Eustace scores 2 in 5-1 win over Tommies

Fredericton, NB – The Dalhousie University Tigers (4-12-2-3) got two goals from Olivia Eustace and that would be all they needed to take down the St. Thomas University Tommies (10-11-0-0) as they cruised to a 5-1 victory Saturday night at the Grant-Harvey Centre.  

The Tigers would get on the board halfway through the first period when captain, Autumn Moors, would take a feed from Emma Penner shorthanded and beat Tommies' goalie, Elizabeth Sweeney (Tecumseh, ON), who was making her third start of the season. The Tigers would push their lead to two before the end of the period courtesy of Eustace's first of the night.  

"First period I thought we played well," said Tommies' head coach, Peter Murphy following the game. "They capitalized on their chances, which was fine. A couple mistakes by us and they scored on them." 

The second period was much like the first for the Tommies, as the Tigers would once again score two goals, this time from Kaela Thomson and Abby Womboldt.  

The Tigers seemed poised to run away with the game, that was, however, until Olivia Reid (Aurora, ON) would deflect Olivia Stock's (Waterdown, ON) point shot, beating Tigers goalie Taylor Beam, to cut the lead to 4-1 heading to the third period.  

The Tommies couldn't harness that momentum and carry it over to the third period though, as Eustace would finish off the scoring 7:35 into the period.  

"You would think scoring one late like that would be enough to carry momentum into the third," added Murphy. "We wanted to score one at the end of that period to give them [Dal] something to think about, and then go from there. We had a few good shifts in the third, but we couldn't materialize it into goals." 

Beam would stop 33 shots on the night while Sweeney would stop 26 in the loss.  

This marked the final game of the regular season for the Tigers, while the Tommies will be back in action Sunday afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Centre when they host the UPEI Panthers. The Tommies will be honouring their graduating players, which Coach Murphy hopes will bring some energy to his team. "I expect the girls to be a little more pumped up tomorrow with it being the grad game and us having seven grads."
