Dalhousie Tigers women’s basketball head coach Tanya McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of small forward Josephine Young for the 2026-27 season.

A 5'10" small forward from North Sydney, N.S., Josephine Young most recently competed with Memorial High School, where she averaged just under 16 points per game. During the 2024–25 season, she helped lead her team to a Regional Championship. In 2023, Young also played a key role in securing a Canada Day Classic title, and in 2025 she helped her team earn a silver medal at the D1 Provincials.
Young brings passion, grit, and relentless effort on both ends of the court. During the 2024–25 season, she was recognized as her team's MVP and earned league second-team all-star honors.
Off the court, Young is also a high achiever. She has consistently been named to the Principal's List over the past four years. This fall, Young will begin studying science.
When asked why she chose Dalhousie, Young credited her decision to the opportunity to compete at an elite level in the AUS and the welcoming atmosphere she felt during her campus visit.
Young is excited to represent her community and use her talents to help propel the Tigers toward future AUS success.
"I am truly grateful for this opportunity, especially as an athlete from an area that doesn't always receive as much exposure," said Young. "I am thankful for the chance to show my potential with the Tigers."
Head coach Tanya McKay is looking forward to what Young will bring to next year's roster.
"Josephine made an immediate impression at our ID Camp last June with her passion, work ethic, and determination," said McKay. "Her enthusiasm and thirst for learning set her apart, and we're excited to provide her with the opportunity to be exposed to the next level. A true hidden gem, we're looking forward to what's ahead."
The Tigers continue to build toward future AUS success for the 2026–27 season.
