Tigers earn first win of the season
Madelyn White led the team with 21 points and four steals.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie Tigers defeated Saint Mary's Huskies, 69-48, at the Homburg Centre, leading by as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Dalhousie opened the first quarter with a slow start, trailing early 9-0 after 4:03 of play. Despite initial struggles, they mounted a comeback led by Madelyn White's 3-pointer at 5:43, followed by Simona Matic's layup and jumper, closing the gap to 9-8.
Dalhousie continued to build momentum, tying the game at 10 with a jumper from Cairo Henning at 1:57. The visiting team then took the lead with two free throws from Matic and a layup by White, sealing the quarter with Henning's free throws to extend the lead. Dalhousie ended the first quarter ahead 16-12.
Dalhousie entered the second quarter with a strong offensive push, initiated by back-to-back 3-pointers from White and Melanie Kardos-Mitchell, extending their lead early. The team showcased efficient ball movement, recording eight assists on nine field goals, including a notable stretch where Melina Collins hit consecutive 3-pointers. This offensive surge was complemented by a solid defensive effort, forcing six turnovers from the Huskies, which were capitalized upon to maintain momentum.
Dalhousie continued to control the pace, with additional contributions from Matic and Gracie Dalton inside the paint. As the quarter progressed, Dalhousie maintained their lead, reaching a 14-point advantage at one point. Despite a few successful plays by the Huskies, Dalhousie's defense held firm, concluding the quarter with a 24-17 advantage, leading 40-29 at the half.
Dalhousie began the third quarter with a strong offensive surge, highlighted by White's fast-break 3-pointer off an assist from Collins, increasing their lead. The team maintained pressure through effective ball movement and defensive stops, with Karina Sarai and Kardos-Mitchell contributing timely baskets to extend the advantage. Victoria Fournier's layup, followed by a made free throw, solidified Dalhousie's largest lead of 17 points at the 1:29 mark. As the quarter concluded, Dalhousie outscored the Huskies 15-10, closing the quarter with a commanding lead of 55-39.

Samantha Manieri was instrumental early, securing an offensive rebound and converting a jumper to widen the gap. The visitors maintained pressure with a layup from Matic and a three-pointer from White, pushing the score further in their favor.
Defensively, Dalhousie capitalized on turnovers, with White and Manieri each recording a steal. The team limited the Huskies' scoring opportunities, while Janessa Flewelling and Rihonna Beals added points through free throws and key rebounds. The quarter closed with Dalhousie asserting a commanding 69–48 lead, securing the victory.
White scored 21 points and recorded four steals, showcasing accuracy with five 3-pointers. Her outstanding performance earned her the title of player of the game. Matic contributed 13 points and dished out six assists, while also collecting five rebounds. Henning added seven points and secured five rebounds. Manieri finished with four points and five rebounds, playing a strong role on the boards.
