With their 2-1 win on Saturday, the Tigers secure a bye to the semifinals.
MONCTON, N.B. — The Dalhousie Tigers secured a 2-1 victory over the Université de Moncton on Saturday night at Stade CBM, with Dalhousie scoring both goals in the second half.
The match commenced with both teams searching for an early advantage. Dalhousie applied pressure early, with Alex Dolomount attempting a shot in the fifth minute that was blocked. Despite their efforts, the Aigles Bleus struck first in the 16th minute through a penalty kick by Jonathan Kisse, putting the home side ahead.
Sinclair Astridge demonstrated resilience as the half progressed, recording multiple saves against Moncton's offensive efforts, including notable stops in the 10th and 24th minutes. Dalhousie responded with increased offensive pressure, highlighted by shots from Mohammed Tolba and Ben Hashimoto, but Moncton's goalkeeper, Aaron Contreras, maintained the lead with crucial saves. The first half concluded with Moncton holding a 1-0 advantage.
The second half began with Dalhousie capitalizing on set-piece opportunities, as Mohammed Tolba delivered two early corner kicks. This pressure culminated in Jack Ellis scoring with assistance from Woody Bain in the 64th minute, leveling the match at 1-1. Astridge made crucial saves, denying Moncton chances to regain the lead.
As the half progressed, Dalhousie's persistence paid off when Moncton inadvertently scored an own goal in the 90th minute, giving Dalhousie a decisive edge. The visitors maintained their defensive composure to close the half and secured a 2-1 victory.
Astridge recorded nine saves, allowing just one goal over 90 minutes. Ellis scored once, converting his only shot on goal. Bain contributed with an assist, setting up a scoring opportunity.
With the win the Tigers lock up a first round bye in the AUS Championship this weekend.
