Tigers draw Sea-Hawks in season opener
Ben Hashimoto scored the opener and a brace in the tie.
The Dalhousie Tigers and Memorial Sea-Hawks played to a 3-3 draw on Friday at Wickwire Field in their AUS regular season openers.
The game began with Ben Hashimoto scoring the first goal for the home team in the 8th minute, assisted by Mohammed Tolba. Tolba recieved the ball on the underlap from Mohammed Wahdan, and drove to the end line before cutting it back to a streaking Hashimoto. Despite several fouls and a yellow card for Cole Savage and Woody Bain, the Tigers maintained their lead until Gabriel Araujo Lage equalized for the visitors just before halftime, leaving the score tied 1-1. Astridge contributed with a key save in the 12th minute, ensuring the game remained competitive.
The second half commenced with Dalhousie showing early promise, as Hashimoto found the net again in the 56th minute, marking his second goal of the season and putting the team ahead at 2-1. In a play that was clearly drawn up on the training ground, Bain hit a looping ball into the six-yard box on a free kick, finding Hashimoto at the back post.
Despite Memorial's quick response with two consecutive goals, the Tigers maintained pressure. Routledge equalized in the 85th minute, scoring a highlight-reel goal to bring the game to a 3-3 draw. The home side had several opportunities, with Workman nearly adding to the scoreline when his shot hit the crossbar in the 67th minute.
Hashimoto contributed significantly with two goals from three shots, all on target, and also added an assist. Tolba provided an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. In goal, Astridge played the full 90 minutes, recording one save from four shots faced, allowing three goals.
