Dalhousie Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Greenwood as Head Coach of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s hockey program.
Greenwood brings more than a decade of coaching and player‑development experience across high‑performance hockey environments, spanning major junior, university, and Junior A levels.
April 30, 2026
He joins the Tigers following two seasons as Head Coach of the Truro Jr. A Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League, where he recently led the program to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League championship and guided the team to a 14‑point improvement from year one to year two. In Truro, Greenwood oversaw all aspects of team operations, including recruitment, video analysis, player development, and program management.
Prior to his time with the Bearcats, Greenwood spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Saint Mary's Huskies men's hockey program in U SPORTS, where he was responsible for defensive systems and penalty kill strategy, supported recruitment efforts, and delivered daily individual and team video instruction. He also played a key role in the planning and execution of summer hockey schools in support of the program.
Greenwood's major junior experience includes seven seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL), where he contributed to elite high‑performance environments, coordinated player pathways to professional and university hockey, and was part of the coaching staff during the club's participation in the 2019 Memorial Cup.
In addition to his club experience, Greenwood has served in regional and national leadership roles, including Head Coach of Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games and Assistant Coach with Team Atlantic at the World Under‑17 Hockey Challenge, working closely with Hockey Nova Scotia on athlete identification and long‑term development.
A dedicated educator as well as coach, Greenwood holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Maine at Fort Kent and a Bachelor of Arts (English) from Saint Mary's University. He is a Hockey Canada High Performance 1–certified coach and certified skating and skills instructor.
"We are excited to welcome Jon to Dalhousie," said Cindy Tye, Director of Athletics & Recreation. "His recent success, combined with his experience at the university and major junior levels, speaks to his ability to lead, develop student‑athletes, and build a competitive program aligned with our values."
"I'm incredibly proud of what we accomplished in Truro, especially winning a Maritime Junior A championship with a group that bought into the process every day," said Greenwood. "The opportunity to join Dalhousie and lead a U SPORTS program is something I'm very excited about. With the recent opening of the Oulton-Stanish Centre, a strong nucleus of returning players, and a clear commitment to excellence, I'm looking forward to building something special with the Tigers."
Greenwood will assume leadership of the Dalhousie men's hockey program on May 15 and begin preparations for the 2026–27 U SPORTS season.
