HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie fell to the UNB REDS 4-2 on Friday night at Halifax Forum despite goaltender efforts with 42 saves. The REDS capitalized with two power-play goals to secure the win.
The opening period began with both teams eager to establish dominance, but the REDS took the initial advantage. Peter Reynolds scored the first goal of the season at 8:43, assisted by Jax Dubois and Cody Morgan, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. Dalhousie struggled to generate offense, with several missed shots despite a power play chance following a hooking penalty on Camaryn Baber. Liam Sztuska and Robbie Forbes were active in goal, successfully turning away numerous shots to keep the game tight. The period concluded with the REDS leading 1-0.
Jonah Jelley scored for Dalhousie at 4:48, assisted by Brody Fournier, giving the home team the lead in the second period. Despite several attempts from the REDS, including shots by Morgan and Reynolds, Forbes stood firm in goal, making multiple saves. Dalhousie had a power play opportunity following a penalty on Luca D'Amato, but they were unable to capitalize. The period ended with the score tied at 1-1, as neither team could break through after Jelley's goal.
The REDS secured a decisive victory in the third period, beginning with a goal by Michael Petizian at 3:03, assisted by D'Amato. The period concluded with several misconduct penalties, marking a contentious end to the game. The REDS outscored Dalhousie 3-1 in the final period to secure the win.
Fournier contributed significantly by scoring one goal and adding one assist, finishing with a plus-minus of +2. Jelley mirrored this performance with one goal, one assist, and a plus-minus of +2 as well. In goal, Forbes made 42 saves, though he allowed four goals in his appearance.
The Tigers hit the road next weekend, heading to Wolfville to face the Axemen on Friday.
