Tigers add McDonough for 2025-26
Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Griffin McDonough for the 2025-26 season.
Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 5’11 point guard has played for Citadel High School since 2022 and has helped lead his team to three provincial silver medals and to be the 2022-23 Regional Champions. In Summer 2024, he played for the Scotia Sting. McDonough also represented Nova Scotia in Summer 2023 for the U16 Basketball Nova Scotia Team and in Summer 2022 for the U15 Basketball Nova Scotia Team where they placed fourth at the Canada Basketball National Championship.
McDonough received School Sport Nova Scotia all-star honours in 2024-25 and took home Citadel High School Rookie of the Year 2022-23. McDonough also won Father Pianfetti Player of the Year for the Halifax Hurricanes 2021-22.
“It has been a goal of mine to play university basketball, and I am so grateful Coach Plato, and the coaching staff have given me this amazing opportunity to represent the Tigers,” says McDonough. “I will do everything in my power to help the team win and be successful. I am so excited to learn from the coaches and players and to be a part of the basketball team.”
On the Principal’s List for the past two years, McDonough will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.
“Griffin brings a tenacity and work ethic which will pay huge dividends as his career,” says Plato. “Although undersized, he makes up for it with a solid basketball IQ. A pure point guard, who can effectively and confidently run an offence, Griffin will be in the development stage in his first year. I will be counting on him to make and immediate impact with his high energy level, determination, and compete level.”
The Tigers finished their season with a 6-13 record, outside of a playoff position.
