What does being a Black student-athlete at Dalhousie mean to you?
Being a black student athlete at Dalhousie is an opportunity I am grateful for. I am so lucky to able to play the sport I love at a university level with other black athletes, it is truly motivating.
Who inspires you as a Black athlete or leader, past or present? And why?
Serena and Venus Williams inspire me as a black student athlete because both sisters are amazing athletes who not only dominate in tennis but use their platforms to push for equal pay, inclusion in sports and maternal health especially for black women.
What message or advice would you share with the next generation of Black athletes?
I would tell the next generation of black athletes to never let someone tell you, you can’t do something. Keep pushing and keep believing in yourself because some day you could become a role model for black athletes yourself. What you do when you think no one is watching is when your looked at the most so continue to work hard if you feel like you are not being looked at.
