Dalhousie Tigers cross country and track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Mikayla Boucher for the 2020-21 season.
A middle/long distance runner, Boucher has been a member of the YHZ Track and Field Club since 2008. The silver medallist in the 3000m event at the 2018 Canadian Indoor U18/U20 Championship, she has helped the club to an Atlantic cross country championship team title in 2018 and provincial indoor track and field championship wins in 2018 and 2019.
A native of Dartmouth, N.S., Boucher is a four-time provincial team member, earning bronze medal in the 4x400m event at the 2018 Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field Championships and was named Team Nova Scotia Team Captain in 2019.
Boucher is also a four-year member of the Prince Andrew High School cross country and track and field teams and has been named both team’s MVP the last three years.
“I remember attending a Dalhousie track and field summer camp at the age of 10 with Coach Lehman,” says Boucher. His passion and dedication to the sport stood out to me immediately. I have been fortunate to have been coached by him again as a member of Team Nova Scotia in 2018. Needless to say, I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to represent Dalhousie University as a varsity cross country and track and field athlete! I feel privileged to work alongside such high caliber athletes, and I am confident that we will be able to push and support each other to be the best athletes, students and people we can be!”
Boucher will majoring in medical sciences at Dalhousie University.
“I've been watching Mikayla develop as an athlete since she attended our Tigers track and field camp in 2012,” says Lehman. “She's been one of Atlantic Canada's top age-class athletes for her entire career, but more importantly, her leadership and team building skills will be crucial for our young team. We're very excited for Mikayla to join our program.”
