Antigonish, NS – The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the StFX X-Women 68-62 Saturday night in a re-match game as the two teams previously played Thursday night. The X-Women took Thursday's game but the Tigers rallied to victory Saturday night on Coach K Court at the Saputo Centre.
The first half was closely contested as the first quarter ended in a 16-16 tie and the halftime score was 35-33 in favour of the Tigers.
Morgan Gause (Baltimore, MD) scored 12 points in the opening half for the Tigers including a key three-pointer late in second quarter to put her squad up by five, and sunk a nice shot at the halftime buzzer.
The third quarter was more back-and-forth close action as the Tigers outscored the X-Women 16-14.
They lead 51-47 after three quarters.
Marley Bonnick (Brampton, ON) scored a three-pointer early in fourth quarter to keep the X-Women close and they pulled to within a point three minutes in but that was as close as they would come as the Tigers hung onto the lead for the remainder of the game.
Emily Holt (Halifax, NS) drained a three-pointer midway through the quarter to give the Tigers a 62-54 lead.
Dalhousie was able to fend off a late X-Women surge and Chloe Wilson (Dartmouth, NS) nailed a jumper with 12 seconds left in the game gave them a four point lead to seal the win.
Wilson finished with 20 points on the night as the Tigers leading scorer and had a double-double game with 11 rebounds.
Holt earned Subway player of the game honours with a 12 point, six rebound effort, while Gause scored 14 points.
Bonnick led the X-Women with 15 points and added five rebounds and a trio of steals. Kimberly Kingsbury (Nepean, ON) scored 13 and had seven rebounds, while Briar MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) and Aliyah Fraser (New Glasgow, NS) each scored 12. MacDonald posted 12 rebounds to lead the X defense.
The Tigers (2-8) will be back in action on Wednesday, January 15th when they host the Acadia Axewomen (6-3).
StFX will play the same Acadia squad on the road in Wolfville, NS on Sunday, January 19th.
