(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers got close a couple of times, pulled even a couple more times, even led briefly, but in the end, the Bishop's Gaiters proved to be too much.

The Gaiters improved to 2-0 at the University of New Brunswick's annual Helen Campbell Tournament with a 53-45 win over Dalhousie, on Saturday afternoon.

Edith Noblecilla (Guayaquil, ECU) scored 12 points, had 6 rebounds, and was named the Gaiters' Summit Dodge Player of the Game.

"It was a tough game," said Noblecilla. "We had some details to work on from last night, and we just followed our coach's instructions."

Ashley Milhomme (Repentigny, QC) led the Gaiters, scoring 15.

Michele Tchiakoua (Montreal, QC) had 13 for Dal, while Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) added 12.

"It was a lot better than yesterday," said Tigers head coach Anna Stammberger. "We're a young team, and it's really early, and I hope… our goal is to get better every time we play, and I think we did that, we were better than yesterday."

Stammberger credits the Gaiters' defence.

"They're a very scrappy, tough defensive team, and put a lot of pressure on the ball and forced us into too many turnovers," she said.

For the Gaiters, this was their second game in less than 24 hours. Noblecilla feels the short turnaround affected them slightly.

"This kind of tournament, you need to be in shape," she said. "We put the same effort into today's game, but that team(Dal) has a lot of heart, and they showed that today."

Bishop's wraps up their Campbell Tournament schedule on Sunday morning, when they face the Lakehead University Thunderwolves.

The Tigers take on Atlantic University Sport rivals and tournament hosts, UNB.
