(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie men’s volleyball head coach Dan Ota is pleased to announce the commitment of Ethan Boyd to the 2018-19 lineup.
A 6’3 outside hitter, Boyd has enjoyed great success across the club and provincial level and is set to bring the Tigers a wealth of experience.
Playing for the Three Oaks Senior High School boys volleyball team the last three years, Boyd has been a crucial part of the team’s success, leading them to a 38-0 win streak while collecting three-consecutive Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association (PEISAA) provincial championship titles. He earned first team all-star nods each season and was named the MVP at the end of the 2017 season.
Boyd also has three Volleyball PEI provincial championship titles under his belt with his club team, the Summerside Slammers. A four-time provincial club championship all-star, he and his team will go after their fourth-consecutive title next spring.
A member of Volleyball PEI’s provincial team program since 2016, Boyd represented his home province at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in both the indoor and beach volleyball competitions.
“I’m looking forward playing for the Dalhousie Tigers,” says Boyd. “Not many people get to play at the next level, and to do so for a program as successful as Dal is really exciting.”
A native of Summerside, P.E.I., Boyd is set to graduate from Three Oaks Senior High in June of 2018, and intends to enroll in the business management program at Dalhousie.
“We are excited to add Ethan to the Tigers family,” says Ota. “I consider him one of the top prospects in Atlantic Canada this year, and he will be a good fit with our team’s emerging young core of players. Ethan has good physical potential to excel at the U SPORTS level but what also impresses me is his maturity and his commitment to learning.”
A second-generation volleyball Tiger, Boyd is following in the footsteps of his father, Stephen Boyd who suited up for the Tigers for four seasons (1987-1991).
