Men’s soccer head coach Pat Nearing is proud to announce the commitment of Obaid Hedayat for the 2019-20 season.
The Kabul, Afghanistan native and Halifax resident, has had a lot of success on the local soccer pitch. In 2017, Hedayat finished the season with Dunbrack United as the U17 AAA top scorer. The previous year, he and his Halifax City U18 AAA teammates won provincials, earning the right to represent Nova Scotia at the national championship. That same year he was selected to the U17 Nova Scotia provincial team representing the province at the Atlantic championship and winning it.
On the high school pitch, Hedayat capped off a successful season this fall with a provincial championship second place finish and 24 goals to his name with Citadel High School.
“I am excited to become a part of the Tigers family and represent Dalhousie on and off the pitch,” says Hedayat. “I cannot wait to get started and make an impact on the soccer field right away.”
Hedayat intends to study commerce at Dalhousie.
“We are extremely happy to have Obaid joining the team for the 2019-20 season,” says Nearing. “He is consistently one of the top Nova Scotia players on the provincial team. Obaid is a hard-working, personable young man who we expect to contribute on the field immediately. He has been successful in all his previous teams and we fully expect that success to follow him to Dalhousie this fall.”
The Tigers will begin the 2019-20 campaign on the road to Moncton on September 6.
