(Halifax, N.S) Christmas has come early for the Dalhousie Tigers this year. After 40 years of hosting Tigers fans, the bleachers in the Dalplex fieldhouse are being retired.
On Monday, December 17, 2018 the installation of new Hussey Telescopic bleachers in the Dalplex fieldhouse commenced. In total 10 new sections will be installed totaling over a thousand seats for Tigers Fans. Six of the sections will have individual seats with backs and armrests, while the remaining four sections will be bench seats.
The installation of the first three sections of bench seating will be completed before Christmas and ready for the 27th Annual Rod and Joan Shoveller Memorial Men's Basketball Tournament December 28 - 30. The remaining seven sections will be installed during the month of January.
"New seating in the Dalplex Fieldhouse will transform the environment where our student-athletes compete and significantly enhance our fans' experience, making Dalplex a destination for our community," say Athletics and Recreation Executive Director, Tim Maloney.
Monday also marked the beginning of the "take a seat for the team" Fundraising campaign through the Dalhousie Fund. The campaign, which will see Dalhousie match gifts dollar for dollar, allows fans to name a seat in the Fieldhouse with a donation to the Fund. There are two categories of donations for the campaign: general seating and centre court premium seating.
Fans are encouraged to name a seat or more to remember their time at Dalhousie, honour a coach, player, family member or someone important in their lives. Fans can visit giving.dal.ca/team to name a seat.
